WALL OF KINDNESS: A NEW PROJECT OF THE AGENCY
Background: India has a homeless population of around 78 million people, including 11 million street children as per census 2011. According to the 2011 census, there are 28% less homeless people from rural areas and 20% less homeless people living in the cities as compared to 2001 (Dr. Kumuda, 2014). In Shillong there are many street children, homeless people. In different parts of Meghalaya many people are very poor and their daily living situations are very pathetic. The economy of Meghalaya as of 2012, according to the Reserve Bank of India, about 12% of total population is below poverty line, with 12.5 of the rural Meghalaya population is below the poverty line; while in urban areas, 9.3% are below the poverty line. Basing on the economy and daily living situation of the people of the Meghalaya, the Agency for Sustainable Development Initiatives, a unit of the Social and Economic Life Development Department, K.J.P.Synod Sepngi is introducing “Wall of Kindness” which is a philanthropy act towards the welfare of the society and the people of Meghalaya at large.
Meaning of Wall of Kindness: Wall of Kindness project is a charity work phenomenon and a kind of welfare. The aim of this Wall of Kindness is to simply donate in kinds to the people who need it, who are deserving and who do not beg. It is a small initiative to help out those brothers and sisters who are in dire need and they don’t have the means to buy new clothes and other items. Wall of Kindness is for various items as it doesn’t necessarily need to contribute stationery items, food, books and notebooks as well. A little effort can make a difference, and Wall of Kindness is a unique design to unify us with our brothers and sisters who need our help.
Objectives:
- To provide clothes to the poor people.
- To help to spread the initiative.
- To signify compassion towards one another.
- To inculcate a sense of responsibility among people towards society
Our Goal: To keep away those are in need from begging at the doors of homes.
Our Mission: To assist donors and others in strengthening and improving our community for the benefit of all those are in need (its residents).
Our Vision: To help you help others through the most effective philanthropy possible.
Target Group: To distribute philanthropy only to the poor, underprivileged, orphanage, etc.
Conclusion: Wall of Kindness is just a philanthropy act to the people who are in real need by distributing be it clothes, food, etc. A random act of kindness, no matter how small, can make a tremendous impact on someone else’s life. There is a saying, that “Kindness is the language which deaf can hear and the blind can see.”
